The Department of Antiquities and Museums was established in Ras Al Khaimah by Amiri Decree No. 6 in 1987 under his highness Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, -may Allah rest his soul in peace-. He was appointed the head of the Department of Antiquities and Museums which is the headquarter is located at the Ras Al Khaimah National Museum.
Since the department was established, it took over some tasks (e.g. surveys, archeological excavations). Moreover, collaboration with archeological excavations missions and protect the archeological sites and objects to show it at the Ras Al Khaimah National Museum. Therefore, carrying out some research and studies related to archeology and then documenting these research to introduce it for different nationality to show them the ancient past of Ras Al Khaimah through preparing some exhibitions, heritage events and historical lectures.
After his highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the current Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, assuming the presidency on the Department of Antiquities and Museums and from his guidance, the Department of Antiquities and Museums has developed starting from the organization’s structure that involved adding some departments as well as specialized unites. Furthermore, the organizational frameworks, vision, mission, objectives, values are formulated to be align with the organizational strategy.
