Topics Covered in Term 2
- Students will have the opportunity to focus on the history of RAK since joining the United Arab Emirates. Students will also focus on how RAK has traded with the other Emirates in recent times. There will also be a focus on current trade.
Skills Developed
- Making links between subjects; making decisions based on evidence; understanding historical and social contexts and change; empathy; cause, effect and consequence; respecting cultural sensitivity and diversity; classifying information; developing awareness of time and place.
- Students will be making connections with the local community by studying the development of RAK from the past to the present.
Literacy & Numeracy
- Students will have the opportunity to develop their literacy skills by defining key terms and ensuring they are being spelt correctly; developing points using paragraphs; structure strips and exam style answers.
Cross Curricular Links
- Social Studies at RAK consolidates knowledge from across the curriculum including maths, English language, English literature, history, geography, global citizenship, art, music, and theory of knowledge.
Extra-Curricular
- School trip to the Museum of Ras Al Khaimah. Students will be able to engage with history from the local museum. The Museum offers a workshop that allows students to work archaeologists. This would be an exceptional experience for the students. An archaeology community project would be a great activity to do outside of school. Students could present their findings of areas in RAK to the community.
- ‘This Week in History’ is document that is shared with students every Monday in form time. ‘This Week in History’ focuses on all of the big events that happened in the upcoming week as a way to make students to reflect and observe past events. The document focuses on different themes each week but a reoccurring theme is the local history theme ‘RAK History’. This provides students with the opportunity to engage more with the history of RAK as well as seeing what other key events happened around the world in the week ahead.
Home Learning
- Assignments are set on Google Classroom.
- All work completed at home is structured, appropriately guided and based on work completed in class.
- Home learning will give students the opportunity to be creative about subjects they are learning in class.
- Promote Ras Al Khaimah to tourists by focusing on the history of RAK; interview family or friends from the local area to gain an insight into local history and also to be involved in Oral History.

- The UAE Ministry of Education supplies a course textbook which is given to all students.
- Suggestions for further reading/research across a variety of formats will be provided where appropriate.
