Vogt conducts two-month excavation of threatened monuments at Asimah.
Vogt surveys the environs of Ras Al Khaimah and begins liaison with Lands Department in order to preserve sites. Julfar project conceived - Vogt excavates a test trench at Julfar to evaluate the situation in preparation for a large-scale international excavation project. Teams from Britain (King, London), France (Hardy-Guilbert, CNRS), Germany (Jansen, Aachen) and Japan (Sasaki, Kanazawa) join the project. Vogt resigns from his post as Resident Archaeologist to take up a new post in Yemen. Proforma for establishment of laboratory is signed by HH Sheikh Sultan.
