Jewish grave witness

The Department of Antiquities and Museums in Ras Al Khaimah revealed one of their recently discovered antiquities, and it is a Jewish grave head stone which was found in the area of Shaml, where the history of the head stone dates back to the period between 1507 to 1650, according to the inquiries of the archaeologists experts in the department, which is the period during which Portuguese forces took control of trades in the Gulf Arabi.

It was founded on the Head stone some of the Hebrew inscriptions and writings, which were translated by specialists, as follows:
This is the grave of the deceased David
of blessed memory son of Moses of blessed, saintly memory
son of David of blessed memory son of……(faded character)
May he be remembered in the world to come; may his soul be bound up in the bundle of life; may his soul rest in Eden.
May their portion be in the world to come

His Excellency Ahmed Obaid Al Tunaiji, General Manager of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, said that there are many stories left by the inhabitants of this land indicating tolerance, coexistence and peace. This trace of the tombstone of the Jewish man David, who may have been a passerby or a dealer, and died on this land, and he was buried in it to keep his grave witness as a witness to the tolerance of Islam and the acceptance and respect of the other, and all religion.


Amal Ibrahim Al-Nuaimi, Manager of Institutional Communications office, added that the Department of Antiquities and Museums in Ras Al-Khaimah is among its initiatives to consolidate the role of the Emirate of Ras Al-Khaimah and its monuments locally and globally, which they participated in the presentation of this headstone at the World Tolerance Summit in Dubai, which was held during the month of November. Where visitors will be able to get acquainted with the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah, this archaeological piece symbolizes tolerance during the coming period.
